Placenta Encapsulation and Tinctures
What is Placenta Encapsulation
The placenta is the organ surrounding your baby in the womb, It allows for the exchange of nutrients, blood, and waste with the mother. After birth, it is expelled from the uterus. The custom of consuming the placenta, often done in capsule form, is centuries old, practiced most often in Chinese medicine. Ingesting capsules or a tincture made from your own placenta has been shown to be beneficial in balancing hormones and thereby reducing incidence of postpartum depression.
Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the mother’s placenta for ingestion by dehydrating it, making it into a powder and placing it into capsules. A tincture is a liquid made by extracting the medicinal properties from a piece of the placenta, usually in alcohol.
What I Offer
I have three decades of experience making herbal medicine and can prepare your placenta in capsule, tincture and salve form. I can also make a beautiful print of your placenta or a keepsake cord.
I will pick up the placenta from the hospital or your home within 24 hours following the birth of your baby and prepare the placenta to your specifications. I can do the encapsulation in your home or mine. For more information of where you may want this done click here.
Capsules - You will receive 100 - 175 capsules on average depending on the size and consistency of the placenta. Most women take 3 capsules 3 times a day for the first week, 2 capsules 2 times a day and 1 per day the 3rd week. Following this, you can take them as needed. They are said to help in milk production, reducing bleeding, alleviating postpartum depression, restoring energy and balancing hormones.
Tinctures - You will receive one 4 oz bottle that can last for decades. A tincture is very potent and just a few drops are needed at a time. Some women choose to save their tincture for menopause.
Salves - are made from a piece of the dehydrated placenta. The salve can be used for sore nipples, C-section scars, the baby's umbilical cord, and anywhere on the skin that needs a healing ointment.
